Clagett Family Research Grant $300,000 Grant Opportunity

The Foundation for Physical Therapy, an independent nonprofit organization with the purpose of funding physical therapy research, is currently accepting applications for a new $300,000 grant: the Clagett Family Research Grant.
The grant was named in honor of the late Lansdale Clagett, and his wife, Gladys, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Lansdale contracted polio as a young adult and was spent 20 years in a wheelchair. After more than 20 years of physical therapy, he fulfilled his dream of leaving his wheelchair and walking on his own again.
This two-year grant is the Foundation for Physical Therapys largest funding opportunities to-date and is intended to fund researchers investigating exercise interventions to improve activity and participation in older adults with multiple chronic conditions. The Foundation for Physical Therapy encourages collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to apply.

Audio Conference: Program and Payment Policy Guidelines from the Medicare Final Ruling Implemented January 2010

Medicare has published new rules regarding pulmonary rehabilitation programs including physician supervision and payment policy in both outpatient hospital based and physician office programs. These new rules affect physical therapists who work in these settings in terms of their billing policies and their program structure. In order to help individuals working in these settings, this program will provide all the new policy rules, the billing codes and expected reimbursement for using these codes, implications for individuals with other lung diseases involved in rehabilitation, and potential red flags for physical therapists treating patients with pulmonary disease.

First Credentialed Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Residency Program

- Congratulations to Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina! Duke University Health System has become the first credentialed Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Residency Program effective November 30, 2009. Duke will be recognized at the opening ceremonies at Combined Sections Meeting in San Diego.
